"Soar on Wings" "Considering its ease of use, it isn't too unrealistic to predict that market leaders like Tally and E.X. may soon be given a run for their money."
Reproduced here is the full review of Wings Accounting Pro by CHIP Magazine (April 2000).
Easier and Faster for Input
With a savvy program like Wings Accounting Pro, Wings Infonet has indeed come a long way from its DOS incarnation. Though this is a typical Windows program with multiple windows, with scrolling lists and the like, you can actually use Wings Accounting Pro without a mouse. This makes it much easier and faster for input of transactions.
Customisability Options
This versatile package handles an array of modules - financial accounting, sales tax and excise accounting, invoice designing and inventory and order management. This modular design of the package allows you to purchase only the features you need. Wings allows you to create unlimited number of companies, while also providing for amazing customisability options such as changing the appearance of screens or even the layout of reports.
You can switch on or off a number of features to adapt Wings to your needs. Besides, you have the option to globally switch off non-critical fields in the input screen. Also, if a particular user has been denied the right to work with some screens, the menu related to these screens will not be visible to him.
Good Interface Design
An extremely well-designed interface is one point where Wings scores over its competitors. You can view grouped items like account heads or inventory items in a hierarchical format as in Windows Explorer, as well as copy and paste items from one group to another. The user-friendly report designing feature simplifies creating and modifying reports. Wings offers several reports in two panes. For instance, the Ledger can appear in two panes. The left pane will show the Accounts Tree or Listing and the right pane will show the ledger.
Wings lets you set up four allocation heads per voucher. These heads can be further grouped and sub-grouped to unlimited levels, providing fairly good analytical power. Wings uses a proprietary database that makes it difficult for linking accounting data with any other software but provides more security.
Reliability
There used to be a Wings Lite version available earlier, but the company has discontinued that product and instead made the Wings Accounting version available free for download from their site. Wings Accounting Pro does however, seem a bit expensive, especially if you take into account its low install base. But considering its ease of use, it isn't too unrealistic to predict that market leaders like Tally and E.X. may soon be given a run for their money.
